MOTIVATION: Start Your Morning with Reflection
Updated: Oct 28, 2019
Did you know that people who spent 15 minutes reflecting performed 23% better at work? Also, people who used their commute to think about and plan for their day were happier, more productive, and less burned out! By starting the day with reflection, you:
Calm the mind
Prepare for the day
Get clarity on your To-Dos
Focus your energy
Sort through your experiences and learn from them
Without reflection, our best intentions may not get channeled into goal attainment. Self-awareness is the beginning of positive change. So give reflection a try today! Here are some tips: Start small. Reflection doesn’t have to be an hour of meditation! Begin with just 5-10 minutes per morning. Focus with a question. Select a daily question to muse about. For example, what is your top value today? Anchor it to something that happens daily. Schedule your reflection to something that already occurs every morning, like when you first wake up, when you have coffee, right before your shower, or when you first sit down at your desk at work. That way, you will be cued for the reflection and guaranteed to do it. Choose your own adventure. Pick the type of reflection activity that is best for your personality and preferences. You can journal, meditate, take a mindful walk, read a scripture passage, or read a couple of pages in a self-help book. Change it up. Cycle different forms of reflection. You can do a different type of reflection for each day of the week. For example, Monday journaling, Tuesday mindful walk.
