PLEASANT ACTIVITIES SERIES
Today I’m launching my #PleasantActivity series. It’s based on the simple, scientific premise that doing things that matter to you can spark joyful moments. Pleasant activities are a cornerstone of the scientifically proven Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, because they can change your #mood and your mindset in seconds. Sometimes we put off things that we love doing because we are too busy, #stressed, tired, etc. But our behaviors directly affect our mood and our thoughts. So don’t wait until you feel like it. Just start doing it now and watch how it changes your brain. I’m starting off with one of my favorite pleasant activities of all time: playing music. I’ve been playing piano and singing since I was 4. Lately, I’ve been so busy that this activity that sparks so much joy for me has gone to the wayside. So I sat down at my piano today and instantly felt more connected to my purpose. The benefits are scientifically proven over years of studies.
Researchers have found a part of the brain devoted solely to processing music.
Music recruits neural mechanisms that trigger positive emotional states and increases release of dopamine and endorphins.
Listening to music with people helps increase a sense of belonging and strengthens community.
Listening to music while you work out can provide extra motivation and push you to run a little faster, lift heavier weights, and cycle longer.
What is the pleasant activity you’ll do today?
