Today I’m launching my #PleasantActivity series. It’s based on the simple, scientific premise that doing things that matter to you can spark joyful moments. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Pleasant activities are a cornerstone of the scientifically proven Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, because they can change your #mood and your mindset in seconds. Sometimes we put off things that we love doing because we are too busy, #stressed, tired, etc. But our behaviors directly affect our mood and our thoughts. So don’t wait until you feel like it. Just start doing it now and watch how it changes your brain. ⁣⁣ ⁣ I’m starting off with one of my favorite pleasant activities of all time: playing music. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ I’ve been playing piano and singing since I was 4. Lately, I’ve been so busy that this activity that sparks so much joy for me has gone to the wayside. So I sat down at my piano today and instantly felt more connected to my purpose.⁣ ⁣⁣ The benefits are scientifically proven over years of studies.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣

  1. Researchers have found a part of the brain devoted solely to processing music.⁣

  2. Music recruits neural mechanisms that trigger positive emotional states and increases release of dopamine and endorphins.⁣

  3. Listening to music with people helps increase a sense of belonging and strengthens community.

  4. Listening to music while you work out can provide extra motivation and push you to run a little faster, lift heavier weights, and cycle longer.⁣⁣

What is the pleasant activity you’ll do today?
