SELF IMPROVEMENT: Radical Acceptance
Have you tried radical acceptance when you encounter an obstacle or stressor? It is about saying yes to life, just as it is.
Radical acceptance is about accepting what’s happening in the moment and not resisting what you cannot change.
We experience pain when we try to fight what’s happening, resist #challenges, avoid problems, and deny what’s happening. It’s exhausting to fight reality and it doesn’t work. If we have a problem, refusing to accept it as such doesn’t change the situation, and it just adds to the difficulties of managing the problem and solving it. Accepting reality is difficult when life is painful. No one likes #Negative#motions. But those experiences are a part of life. If you avoid or resist, you actual intensify your suffering. The negative emotion becomes amplified and more pervasive because you spend more cognitive resources trying to push it away. Counterintuitively, accepting it actually lessens the intensity of the emotion and frees up emotional and cognitive resources to do other things that are more valuable and fruitful.
SO TRY THIS: Accept a difficult situation or feeling by saying “I’m in this situation and I don’t like it. But I accept that this is what’s happening and I will let go of what I can’t change, and focus on what I can do to improve the moment.”
Radical Acceptance takes practice. But we can all do it.
